Brand new for 2025, the Expedition adds a variety of models designed for your lifestyle, including the new Tremor model that is made for off-road adventure. 2025 Ford Expedition vs Toyota Sequoia

The Toyota Sequoia is a large SUV that offers more for its owners. Powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid driveline, it is also unique in that it is the only electrified vehicle in its class. It is available in two- and four-wheel drive.  

  • While the Sequoia has only one driveline – the hybrid twin-turbocharged V6 – you have a choice of power in the Expedition. You have a choice of two EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6s, depending on model. On the Tremor, the High Output version puts down 510 pound-feet of torque without needing to use an electric motor.   
  • Toyota only offers one length and wheelbase for the Sequoia. The Expedition offers an extended version – the MAX model – for families who need more space.  It offers excellent third-row seating space for up to three passengers.  
  • Ford leads in driver assistance technology. The available Blue Cruise gives drivers some time to relax while staying on the road. This technology is not available on the Sequoia.  
  • A proven four-wheel-drive system is easy to use through a two-speed transfer case. However, the Tremor offers more capability with off-road equipment that will take you everywhere. This trim level is available on both the Expedition and Expedition MAX.  
  • Ford has rewritten the book in terms of cabin design and driver ergonomics with the 2025 Expedition with the Ford Digital Experience. The 24.0-inch Panoramic Display Instrument Cluster not only gives you all the information you need, it is also positioned for maximum driver attention towards the road.  
  • The 2025 Expedition also features the new Split Gate at the rear. The lower gate is not only power operated, but it also handles loads – including a place to sit for tailgating – while making it easier to leverage heavier items into the cargo space.  

2025 Ford Expedition vs Jeep Wagoneer

Jeep’s return to the large SUV segment was a long time coming. Jeep changed the SUV business when it was first introduced in 1963. The newest Wagoneer comes with a mix of luxurious design and Jeep’s famed capability. It comes in two- and four-wheel drive and is powered by a twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine.  

  • The Wagoneer only offers one engine – the highly touted Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. On the Expedition, you get two versions of the EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6. The High Output version puts down more torque (510 pound-feet) than the Wagoneer’s engine. Plus, the Expedition has a ten-speed automatic transmission compared to the Wagoneer’s eight-speed.  
  • Compared to the Wagoneer, the Expedition’s EcoBoost V6s are also more fuel efficient. In fact, the Ford has been rated for 22 mpg on the highway with four-wheel drive.  
  • Ford leads in driver assistance technology. The available Blue Cruise gives drivers some time to relax while staying on the road. This technology is not available on the Jeep.  
  • Ford has rewritten the book in terms of cabin design and driver ergonomics with the 2025 Expedition with the Ford Digital Experience. The 24.0-inch Panoramic Display Instrument Cluster not only gives you all the information you need, but it is also positioned for maximum driver attention towards the road.  
  • Ford’s SYNC infotainment system uses a 13.2-inch center touchscreen for all infotainment and connectivity. The screen is larger than the one in the Wagoneer. 
  • The 2025 Expedition also features the new Split Gate at the rear. The lower gate is not only power operated, but it also handles loads – including a place to sit during tailgating – while making it easier to leverage heavier items into the cargo space.  

2025 Ford Expedition vs Nissan Armada

Another newly redesigned entry into this segment is the Nissan Armada. It is bolder than before and offers more choices for its customers. Nissan went with its own twin-turbocharged V6 engine for power (instead of a V8 as in previous-generation models). It is also offered in two- and four-wheel drive.  

  • The Armada’s only engine available is the new twin-turbocharged V6. With the Expedition, you have two different versions available of the EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6. Both of the Expedition’s engines are paired with ten-speed automatic transmissions compared to the Armada’s nine-speed. 
  • Nissan only offers one length and wheelbase for the Armada. The Expedition offers an extended version – the MAX – for families who need more space.  Behind the third row, the Expedition MAX has 37.6 cubic feet of cargo space, expandable to 123.1 cubic feet. It also has excellent third-row seating space for up to three passengers.  
  • Nissan requires you to fuel up with Premium Unleaded fuel. You can run the Expedition’s standard EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 on just Regular Unleaded. That is an immediate fuel savings passed on to you.     
  • Ford leads in driver assistance technology. The available Blue Cruise gives drivers some time to relax while staying on the road.

2025 Ford Expedition vs Chevrolet Tahoe

After selling the Suburban for about 60 years, the rising popularity of SUVs led Chevrolet to recognize a market for a shorter full-size SUV, resulting in the 1994 Tahoe and its GMC counterpart, the (non-XL) Yukon. Its analysis of the market proved correct, and 30 years later, Chevrolet sold 105,147 units in 2024. The Tahoe is built on the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 platform but features an independent rear suspension. The standard engine on most Tahoe models is a 5.3-liter V8, while the 6.2-liter V8 is standard on the flagship High Country. All models are also available with a 3.0-liter I6 Duramax turbodiesel.  

  • Neither the Tahoe’s 355-hp V8 nor the 305-hp diesel engine can match the 400-horsepower twin-turbo V6 that comes standard with the Expedition. 
  • The Tahoe’s available diesel engine offers 495 lb-ft of torque, slightly exceeding the 480 lb-ft of the Expedition’s base engine. However, it cannot match the 510 lb-ft of torque provided by the Expedition’s available High Output EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine. 
  • The Expedition’s EcoBoost V6 is not only more powerful but also more fuel-efficient than the standard V8 of the Tahoe (16/24/19 vs. 15/20/17 mpg).  
  • The Expedition is three inches taller, two inches shorter, and over a foot wider than the Tahoe (7-feet 10-inches vs. 6-feet 9-inches). 
  • The standard Expedition has a ground clearance of 8.7 inches compared to 8.0 inches for the Tahoe. 
  • At 9,300 pounds, the Expedition has a significantly greater towing capacity than the Tahoe at 8,400 pounds. 
  • The Expedition provides an extra 1.5 inches of legroom for third-row passengers (36.5 vs. 34.9 inches). 
  • The Expedition also provides more shoulder room for second- and third-row passengers (64.8/64.2 vs. 64.6/62.7 inches) as well as more hip room for the same (62.3/51.4 vs. 61.3/49.4 inches). 
  • The Expedition has a greater maximum payload of 1,971 pounds compared to 1,834 pounds for the Tahoe. 
  • The 2025 NHTSA crash test figures are not yet available for either model; however, for 2024, the structurally identical Expedition boasts a 5-star overall rating, while the 2024 Tahoe has a 4-star rating. 
  • The Tahoe has no answer for the 2025 Expedition’s Ford Digital Experience. This 24.0-inch Panoramic Display Instrument Cluster not only provides all the necessary information but is also positioned to optimize driver focus on the road, while a separate lower touchscreen is within easy reach.  
  • Of these two models, only the 2025 Expedition features the Split Gate at the rear. The lower gate is not only power-operated but also accommodates loads—including a place to sit during tailgating—while making it easier to lift heavier items into the cargo space. 

2025 Ford Expedition vs Chevrolet Suburban

The Chevrolet Suburban comes from a long line of large SUVs that have transported families for 90 years. A Suburban can be recognized from miles away, as it has served many purposes beyond family transportation, ranging from public safety to chauffeuring. It is available in both rear- and four-wheel drive configurations. The 2025 Suburban offers a choice of engines, including a turbocharged inline six-cylinder diesel.   

  • Neither the Suburban’s 355-hp V8 nor the 305-hp diesel engine can compare to the standard 400-horsepower Expedition Max twin-turbo V6. 
  • While the Suburban’s available diesel engine offers 495 lb-ft of torque, it slightly surpasses the Expedition’s base engine but does not match the available High Output EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which delivers 510 lb-ft of torque.   
  • The Expedition’s EcoBoost V6s are also more fuel-efficient than any of the Suburban’s V8s. In fact, the Ford has been rated at 22 mpg on the highway with four-wheel drive.   
  • The standard Expedition Max has a ground clearance of 8.8 inches, which is greater than the Suburban’s 8.0 inches. 
  • The Expedition Max can tow up to 9,000 pounds, which exceeds the Suburban’s capacity of 8,200 pounds. 
  • Ford has redefined cabin design and driver ergonomics with the 2025 Expedition, featuring the Ford Digital Experience. The 24.0-inch Panoramic Display Instrument Cluster not only provides all the necessary information but is also positioned for optimal driver focus on the road.   
  • The 2025 Expedition also features a new Split Gate at the rear. The lower gate is not only power-operated but also handles loads—including a place to sit during tailgating—while making it easier to leverage heavier items into the cargo space.   
  • The Expedition Max’s 1,958-pound payload exceeds that of the Suburban, whether it has the V8 (1,750 pounds) or diesel (1,430 pounds) engine. 

2025 Ford Expedition vs GMC Yukon

The GMC Yukon was introduced in 1991 as a 1992 model, essentially a GMC version of the Blazer full-size two-door SUV. A four-door counterpart to the Chevrolet Suburban followed three years later. Eventually, it became available in two different lengths to correspond with the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, named Yukon and Yukon XL, respectively. Mechanically, the Yukon models are the same as the Tahoe and Suburban, including the same V8 and diesel engine options, but they vary in trim and feature packaging. 

  • Neither the Yukon XL’s 355-hp V8 nor the 305-hp diesel engine can match the standard 400-horsepower Expedition Max’s twin-turbo V6. 
  • The Yukon XL’s available diesel engine offers 495 lb-ft of torque, slightly exceeding the Expedition Max’s 480 lb-ft. However, the High Output EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine, available on certain Expedition Max models, is more powerful, delivering 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.   
  • The Expedition Max’s EcoBoost V6s are also more fuel-efficient than any of the Suburban’s V8s. In fact, the Ford has been rated at 22 mpg on the highway with four-wheel drive.   
  • The standard Expedition Max has a ground clearance of 8.8 inches, which is greater than the Yukon XL’s 7.7-inch clearance. 
  • The Expedition Max’s maximum towing capacity of 9,000 pounds exceeds that of the Yukon XL, which has a capacity of 8,200 pounds. 
  • Third-row passengers have more shoulder room (64.2 vs. 62.8 inches) and hip room (51.4 vs. 49.4 inches) in the Expedition Max, and about the same leg room (36.5 vs. 36.7 inches). 
  • The Yukon XL’s 16.8-inch infotainment screen is good-sized, but it can’t come close to matching the Expedition Max’s 24.0-inch Panoramic Display, which is positioned for maximum driver attention towards the road. An additional center 13.2-inch touchscreen is within easy reach for operation. 
  • The Yukon XL also cannot match the Expedition Max’s new rear Split Gate. The lower gate is not only power-operated, but it can also handle loads—including a place to sit during tailgating—while making it easier to lift heavier items into the cargo space.   
  • The Expedition Max’s 1,958-pound payload exceeds that of the Yukon XL with the V8 (1,750 pounds) or diesel (1,430 pounds).
