2025 Ford F-150 Lightning vs the Competition

2025 Ford F-150 Lightning vs the Competition

The Ford F-150 Lightning is perhaps the most conventional of all the electric pickups currently on the market. There’s no massive crab-walking variant with more horsepower than most people can use. Instead, the F-150 Lightning looks suspiciously like a standard F-150. That’s no bad thing. After all, the F-Series is the best-selling pickup nameplate in the world, and the Lightning offers many of the same advantages that make its gasoline- and hybrid-powered cousins such strong competitors, including segment-leading capability. But with this conservative approach, how does the F-150 Lightning stack up against its competitors? Let’s take a look

2025 Ford F-150 Lightning vs Telsa Cybertruck

Tesla’s Cybertruck is brand new, but its polarizing looks and high price have proven controversial. Still, it remains a capable, high-tech entry in this expanding and competitive field. It’s also one of the most eye-catching designs on the road, for better or worse.

  • Despite being down on power to the base Cybertruck, the base model 2025 F-150 Lightning offers significantly more torque—775 lb-ft vs. the Tesla’s 525 lb-ft.
  • The standard 2025 F-150 Lightning and the Cybertruck offer similar towing capacities. Ford rates the Lightning at 10,000 pounds, while the Cybertruck tops out at 11,000.
  • The 2025 F-150 Lightning offers more standard payload capacity than the Cybertruck.
  • The 2025 F-150 Lightning offers more leg, shoulder, and hip room in both the front and rear benches.
  • Bang & Olufsen digital audio is available on the F-150 Lightning; the Tesla offers no such premium sound system.
  • The Lightning comes standard with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • The F-150 Lightning Platinum is offered with aluminum and wood trim options not found on the Cybertruck.
  • The F-150 Lightning is offered with power-adjustable pedals to better fit any driver.
  • As an alternative to Tesla’s keyless access system, Ford offers its keypad entry system.
  • Ford’s vast network of dealers offers ready access to service departments all over the United States, even in remote parts of the country.
  • Both Extended Range models offer comparable driving distances on a single charge. The top-rated F-150 Lightning can go 300 miles; the Cyberbeast is rated for 320.
  • The F-150 Lightning’s Extended Range battery is rated at 131 kWh; the Tesla’s capacity is only 121 kWh.

2025 Ford F-150 Lightning vs Rivian R1T

While the Rivian R1T was considered the wild child of the segment when it debuted in 2021, it’s now part of the “old guard” of electric pickups. The R1T was just updated in 2025 to help it keep up with its competitors.

  • Despite being down on power to the base R1T, the base model 2025 F-150 Lightning offers significantly more torque—775 lb-ft vs. the Rivian’s 610 lb-ft.
  • The standard 2025 F-150 Lightning and the R1T offer similar towing capacities. Ford rates the Lightning at 10,000 pounds, while the Rivian tops out at 11,000.
  • The F-150 Lightning offers larger front and rear brakes than the R1T, improving confidence while towing and hauling.
  • The F-150 Lightning’s on-demand four-wheel drive system can be equipped with a locking rear differential for better access to rough terrain.
  • The Rivian R1T and F-150 Lightning offer comparable payload capacities.
  • The Lightning’s 67.1-inch available bed is longer than the R1T’s (54.1 inches), making it easier to secure longer items and reach cargo in the bed without bending over.
  • The F-150 Lightning is offered with power-adjustable pedals to better fit any driver.
  • The Ford offers a Bang & Olufsen audio system, while Rivian’s premium sound upgrade is made by Dolby.
  • The F-150 Lightning can be optioned with a leather interior; the Rivian is only offered with leatherette.
  • As an alternative to Rivian’s keyless access system, Ford offers its keypad entry system.
  • The F-150 Lightning Platinum offers more charging options than the Rivian R1T Ascend.
  • Both the Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning can be equipped with a panoramic moonroof.

2025 Ford F-150 Lightning vs Chevrolet Silverado

The Chevrolet Silverado is the Ford F-150’s most direct competitor, so it should come as no surprise that both are staking claim to the electric pickup space. The Silverado EV takes a similar approach to the Lightning, offering a conventional body which should appeal to mainstream truck buyers. However, Ford’s more everyman approach gives it a price advantage over the pricier Chevy.

  • The Ford F-150 Lightning Pro is significantly cheaper than the base Silverado EV LT.
  • While the Silverado EV LT offers more towing capacity than the F-150 Lightning, both offer a max of 10,000 pounds in their max-range battery configurations.
  • The F-150 Lightning Pro offers significantly more payload capacity than the base Silverado EV (2,235 lbs vs. 1,458)
  • The F-150 Lightning’s on-demand four-wheel drive system can be equipped with a locking rear differential for better access to rough terrain.
  • The Chevy Silverado EV offers more standard and optional horsepower than the Ford F-150 Lightning, but both offer similar torque.
  • The F-150 Lightning and Silverado EV trade advantages in interior space. The Lightning offers more shoulder, hip, and head room both front and rear, while the Silverado EV offers more first- and second-row leg room.
  • The F-150 Lightning is offered with a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, while the Chevy’s upgrade comes from Bose. The F-150 can be optioned with 13 speakers. The F-150 Lightning is offered with power-adjustable pedals to better fit any driver.
  • If you’re a fan of keyless entry systems, Ford’s long-running keypad is available on the Lightning.
  • The F-150 Lightning Platinum offers more charging options than the Silverado EV RST Max Range.
