2025 Maverick Lobo Marks the Return of the Street Truck
With Ford’s Tremors, Raptors, and similar recent efforts by other manufacturers, one could be excused for thinking that all pickup truck performance points to going off-road. However, the vast majority of pickup trucks keep their tires on the pavement. Recognition of this brought about the mid-80s to early 2000 street-truck movement. It featured high-performance trucks lowered to bring down their center of gravity and added handling enhancements for owners more interested in lateral than vertical Gs. The 2025 Maverick Lobo is a model optimized for street performance, which, as Ford describes it, provides “a new canvas for modern street truck builds.” Dick Smith Ford fills you in on this upcoming model.

Low and Agile
The Maverick Lobo starts with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive. It is lowered in the front by a half-inch and 1.12 inches lower in the rear with an overall roof height that is 0.8 inches lower.
Inspired by drifting and autocross, the model has an exclusive Lobo drive mode, which improves cornering performance, grip, and stability, helping to minimize understeer. Key to the improved cornering is a twin-clutch differential that enables torque vectoring. This means it will shift power from the rear to the outside wheel to help rotate the vehicle in a curve, taking some of the lateral load off the front tires. This reduces understeer and allows it to approach the classic “corners like it is on rails” capability. Because it also reduces the effectiveness of the stability control system, Lobo mode is intended for closed courses such as autocross events. Ford describes it as “the Maverick equivalent to Mustang track mode.”
To further improve performance capability, the model gains a transmission cooler while the engine cooling system is enhanced with the larger radiator and fan from the Maverick’s 4K towing package.

Looking The Part
In addition to the lowered stance, the model rides on exclusive black pie-plate wheels. Up front, a unique grille with vertical slats that curve into the front bumper. The side features body-color rocker moldings that match the rear bumper.
The interior features both Grabber Blue and Electric lime contrast stitching with additional speckles of Grabber Blue in the black seating surfaces and “Lobo” embossed on the head restraints. This is all on the standard configuration. A High configuration for the Lobo adds:
- Heated steering wheel and front seats
- Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 driver-assist technologies
- 360-degree camera
- Spray-in Bedliner
- Moonroof
Not available in the initial build, but coming in early 2025, highly configured models will also include Pro Trailer Hitch. This assists in connecting with a trailer by using the rear camera and blind spot sensors to align the hitch with the trailer coupler while simultaneously controlling the truck’s speed, steering, and braking to stop at just the right place. Pro Trailer Backup Assist makes backing up a trailer as easy as turning a knob to indicate which direction the trailer should go while reversing into position.
