2025 Ford Maverick Lariat Front Grille ViewAnytime you do something that hasn’t been done before, you are taking a chance. That is exactly what Ford was doing when it developed and launched the Maverick in 2021. The idea of a small, unibody, front-wheel drive-based pickup truck was, in many ways, contrary to how Ford has built its pickup trucks in its history. With the luxury of looking back, we see that the idea of a small vehicle with the affordability and operating costs of an economy car and the versatility of a pickup truck turned out to be so popular Ford couldn’t make enough of them, and Dick Smith Ford couldn’t keep them in inventory. The hybrid version – another bold move – turned out to be the most popular Mavericks. But there was a problem. The Hybrid was only available in front-wheel drive. For the 2025 model year, that problem has been solved.

Hybrid and AWD Together

In the years since its launch, the availability of a hybrid with all-wheel drive was the top request of Maverick owners. Available on XL, XLT, and Lariat trims, you can now operate with considerable efficiency and still have the traction optimization of AWD on wet and non-paved surfaces. It uses the same 2.5-liter hybrid drivetrain as the current hybrid model, rated at 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. After channeling through the electronic continuously variable transmission, power is split to vary torque between the front and rear axle.

The maximum payload is 1,400 pounds for the hybrid AWD model and remains at 1,500 pounds for the FWD Hybrid and AWD EcoBoost models. As on the 2.0-liter EcoBoost-powered models, the standard towing capacity is 2,000 pounds, rising to 4,000 pounds with the Towing Package, which is enough to tow small campers, personal watercraft, or utility trailers. Towing ability is further enhanced with Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist, now standard features on the Lariat and Tremor trims. Lariat and Tremor are also now equipped with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go ability, lane centering, and predictive speed assistance, all of which ease the task of driving.

Official EPA estimates are not available yet, but Ford is targeting 40 city MPG for the AWD model, which is down just slightly from the 42 MPG of the FWD model.

Additional Enhancements

Responding to other owner requests, the cabin now hosts a 13.2-inch touchscreen, the interface for the revised SYNC4 Infotainment system. The most notable feature of the new system is the convenience of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you will never leave your phone in your truck again because you forgot to unplug it. Also new is the availability of a 360-degree camera system that shows what is close all around the vehicle and helps you emerge perfectly centered in a parking spot every time.

In addition to the bigger screen, the seats, door panels, console, and instrument panel are new colors and materials. The Aspen Gray/Navy Pier theme on XLT now has Blue accents, while the Lariat adds a Smoke Truffle theme with bronze accents.

A New Face

Finally, the thing you will likely first notice about the 2025 Maverick is the revised front-end design. Dark-shaded LED headlights, the grille, and the front bumper have all been redesigned for a clean, fresh look. Higher trims feature LED projector headlamps with LED signature accent lighting. Grille mesh styles now vary across trim levels to give each its own unique appearance.

All in all, the 2025 Maverick is more capable and appealing than ever before and might be the Ford pickup for you. Find out by visiting Dick Smith Ford to see the truck for yourself. Initial ordering began on August 1st, with vehicles expected to arrive in late 2024.
