How The Ford F-150 Won The “Battle Royale” of Pickup Trucks

To be the best pickup truck around, you have to do everything right. You have to carry the load, tow, offer a comfortable cab, easy access to the bed, and deliver on performance that makes work – and play – easy. These are the reasons why the Ford F-150 has been the best-selling pickup truck in the country for the past 48 years. To prove why, it has to be tested.

Edmunds.com assembled every full-size half-ton pickup truck sold in this country together for a major comparison. They called it a “battle royale.” To make things fair, they said that “each of these trucks has different strengths and weaknesses for you to consider before buying. We’ll detail them all.”

Ford sent a 2025 F-150 Tremor into battle for this comparison. How well did it do? The F-150 came out on top.

The team at Edmunds.com acknowledged that the F-150 had the “best-in-class towing/payload and does just about everything well.” That includes a maximum towing rating of up to 13,500 pounds and a maximum payload rating of up to 2,440 pounds.

However, the big win for the F-150 was in the infotainment and technology that this pickup truck uses. Edmunds.com explains that the F-150 offers a “12-inch screen is standard across the entire F-150 lineup, and it’s fantastic to use with a simple menu structure, the best surround-view camera of the bunch, and a navigation system that doesn’t require a subscription.”

They added, “Ford has also resisted the urge to throw all of the controls into the screen, meaning {there} are well-placed controls around the center console for commonly used functions, including our personal favorite, a camera button.”

Even more important, Edmunds.com pointed out that “you can also get the BlueCruise hands-free driving system that has markedly improved over time and a really good set of towing technology aids.”

Lastly, they added that “there’s of course wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, with both taking up the entire screen. Kudos to Ford for making life easy.

That is what the F-150 is all about – making life easy.

There’s more. Edmunds.com cited the F-150’s great off-road capabilities. The Tremor has the chops for those who want to get off the highway but do not need anything hardcore for rougher terrain. That is where the Raptor and Raptor R come in, with their built-in capabilities and the right components to truly have fun.

You can also add the wide selection of drivetrain choices. There is an engine for every kind of work or pursuit you do, ranging from the EcoBoost 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 to the supercharged 5.2-liter V8. You can also select the 3.5-liter full-hybrid PowerBoost for that combination of exceptional torque and better fuel economy. Plug in your work tools on site through the 7.2-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard, as well, and get the work done.

In conclusion, Edmunds.com said, “it’s clear that Ford makes the best truck for both work and play.
