Return of the Factory Street Truck: 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo

Trucks are supposed to be usable and effective at doing heavy-duty tasks like towing, hauling, camping, off-roading, and the like—but that doesn’t mean they can’t be fun and entertaining, too. Enter the new and unique 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo, the return of the street truck. MotorTrend tested and reviewed the new Lobo, giving it a full stamp of approval by saying, “And we gotta say, the Ford Maverick Lobo is the best small sporty pickup truck you can buy. It’s also the only small sporty pickup truck you can buy, but at least it’s good.” 

Pricing and Trim Levels 

The 2025 Maverick has been updated with a mild exterior refresh and a modest assortment of interior upgrades. Starting from $30,535, the Maverick is available in five different trim levels, including the XL, XLT, Lobo, Lariat, and Tremor. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. The Lobo starts at $38,320.  

Engines and Transmissions 

Buyers can choose between a 2.5-liter Hybrid and a 2.0-liter EcoBoost. The Hybrid produces 191 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, and the EcoBoost has 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Hybrid models feature a PowerSplit e-CVT. Trims with the EcoBoost get an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the Lobo gets a seven-speed automatic. 

Why the Lobo Is so Unique 

What makes the Maverick Lobo so special? It’s 15 pounds lighter than a standard AWD EcoBoost Maverick, rides half an inch lower in the front and 1.2 inches lower in the rear, and features its own unique grille and front fascia as well as rear styling. The front brakes and steering rack were sourced from sporty European Ford offerings. The Lobo has a torque-vectoring rear differential from the Maverick Tremor. The transmission in the Lobo offers one fewer gear (in conjunction with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles) and has been tuned for sportier and quicker acceleration, which was proven by MotorTrend.  

Fantastic Performance from a Pickup Truck 

When timed by MotorTrend, the Lobo launched from 0-60 mph in just 6.4 seconds, which is six-tenths of a second faster than the outlet’s last recorded time in an AWD EcoBoost Maverick. It recorded the same exact 0-60 time as a Volkswagen GTI.  

Inside Is a Nice Place to Spend Time 

The inside of the Maverick Lobo is just as special as the outside, with exclusive Grabber Blue and Electric Lime stitching on all the seats and Lobo logos embossed on the front seats. The gauge cluster is fully digital, and a 13.2-inch infotainment screen is standard and features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.  

MotorTrend’s Conclusion 

In the end, how did MotorTrend feel about the Lobo? “… if you want a sporty small pickup truck, to us at least, the Maverick Lobo is worth whatever it costs since it’s in a class of one. We’d budget a little extra money for stickier tires, a more wicked exhaust, and maybe an engine tune, but even out of the box, the Lobo is largely satisfying and definitely cool.”
