Why Leasing an EV May Be Smarter than Buying

When it comes to buying or leasing a new car, there are always pros and cons that will help you make the best decision for your needs. However, when it comes to electric Ford vehicles, it is likely in the best interest of new car buyers to lease rather than buy. Let’s take a closer look at why it may be smart to lease your next EV.
Does Leasing Still Allow for Tax Credits and Vehicle Incentives?
Ford offers two of the best electric vehicles on the market with the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E. Both vehicles offer great utility and range at competitive prices. Now, worry not, as the $7,500 new-car tax credit, new vehicle discounts, and any incentives will still apply whether you decide to buy or lease.
A Monthly Cost Savings Over Buying
Leasing can come at a cost savings from a monthly payment standpoint, which allows you to get into something a little more expensive and be able to turn it in within two to three years and get a brand-new car. This works out great if you work from home or have a hybrid job situation. You’ll put fewer miles on your EV and be able to turn it in without incurring any mileage overage fees.
New Tech Features by the Time Your Lease Is Up
Another reason for leasing an EV has to do with technology. Battery tech is constantly advancing, and by the time that your lease is up your next EV could have more range, better features, and potentially even a completely new design.
A New Car Warranty
If having a warranty is important to you, then leasing may be your best option. You start off with a new car warranty, then when your lease is up you get another brand-new car with a brand-new car warranty. There’s no worrying or hassle with trying to get an extended warranty or an aftermarket warranty.
You can Still Buy Out Your Leased Vehicle
Say your lease is up and you decide that you truly loved the car and don’t really feel the need to get another new car, or maybe you aren’t really bothered with the new features or potential extra range of a newer model. You can just buy the car you leased outright at a reasonable price.
It’s Nice to Just Turn in Your Car
Some people really like the idea of leasing cars because they keep their vehicles clean and don’t drive a lot, and it feels nice to be able to turn it in every two to three years and get something new or different. They don’t have to worry about what their trade-in is worth, haggling over values, and the like. Instead, you hand someone your keys and then decide what you’d like to drive next.
